Dardanus (also Dardanos) is an ancient city site on the Asian shore of the Dardanelles (Hellespont) in the classical Troad region, within modern Çanakkale Province, Turkey. The city occupied a strategic position at the entrance to the strait linking the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara.
Archaeological remains at the site include foundations and fragments from Greek and Roman periods; the city is referenced in classical literature and played a role in regional maritime routes. Its location made it important for control of naval passage through the Dardanelles.
Historically the site was part of the wider landscape of ancient Troad, with successive occupation and fortification in the classical era. Today the ruins lie near the contemporary coastline of northwestern Anatolia, some kilometres from the city of Çanakkale.
