Cuc Phuong National Park Park
Vietnam's oldest national park with rich biodiversity
Cuc Phuong, Vietnam's oldest national park, offers lowland rainforest, limestone karsts, caves and a primate rescue centre. Hikers, birders and conservation-minded visitors follow trails, visit the park's visitor centre and overnight in basic bungalows.
Cuc Phuong National Park is Vietnam’s first national park, established to protect lowland tropical forest and karst landscapes in Ninh Bình province. The park is a major center for biodiversity conservation and species recovery programs in northern Vietnam.
The park contains marked walking trails through primary and secondary forest, viewpoints, and botanical interest such as large, old trees and diverse understory plants. Several on-site conservation facilities receive visitors: an Endangered Primate Rescue Center and a Turtle Conservation Centre that run educational tours and rehabilitation work.
Areas within the park have long-standing human and prehistoric presence, and the site was formally protected in the 20th century as Vietnam developed its national park system. Conservation work since the late 20th century has focused on rescuing threatened species and habitat protection.
Cuc Phuong sits in inland Ninh Bình province on karst terrain and lowland forest, roughly southwest of Hanoi, and is accessed by road from major northern Vietnamese cities; the park headquarters and visitor facilities lie near the park’s main entrance.
- Best time to visit: Best visited in the dry season when trails are more accessible and wildlife sightings are easier; many guides recommend October to April.

What to See#

- Trails and visitor areas: Network of marked forest trails and day hikes that pass through lowland tropical forest, karst outcrops and fig-tree groves, with interpretive signs at main trailheads.
