Main image

Cox’s Bazar Beach is a long natural sandy beach on the Bay of Bengal in southeastern Bangladesh, located in Cox’s Bazar District. It is widely cited as being about 120 km long and is known for an unbroken sweep of sand along the coast.

The beach offers extensive shallow sand and wide tidal flats along most of its length, with a central tourist corridor around the town where hotels, shops and lifeguard-patrolled sections are concentrated. Outlying stretches include rocky and coral-stone sections at Inani and the cliff and waterfall area at Himchari, giving a mix of open beach and nearby natural attractions.

The area developed from a historic fishing and trading settlement into a major domestic and international tourism destination in the 20th and 21st centuries, with growing resort infrastructure and transport links. Tourism facilities include beachfront promenades, boat excursions and local seafood markets.

Geographically it sits on Bangladesh’s southeastern coast in Cox’s Bazar District, adjacent to the town of Cox’s Bazar. The city of Chattogram (Chittagong) lies to the northwest, roughly 150 km by road, and the beach faces the Bay of Bengal.

  • Best time to visit: Best visited in the dry season from October to March when rainfall is lower and sea conditions are calmer.
  • Length claim: Often cited as a continuous sandy shoreline of about 120 km, making it one of the longest natural sea beaches in the world.
  • Access and services: The main access and visitor services are concentrated around Cox's Bazar town and Laboni Point; some stretches such as Inani and Himchari lie a short drive from the town center.

What to See #

  • Laboni Point: Serves as the main town access point and tourist hub for the beach, with shops, hotels and the main entry at Laboni Point where lifeguards and boat excursions operate.
  • Inani Beach: A stretch of beach noted for dark rock outcrops and coral stones that contrast with the long sandy shore; popular for photography and lower-density visits compared with the main town beach.
  • Himchari: A coastal park and cliff area south of the town with a waterfall, walking tracks and viewpoints back toward the beach; attracts day visitors for short walks and birdwatching.
