Peaks and summits in the range reach elevations above 5,000 metres, and the area is notable for its volcanic cones, rugged terrain and proximity to saline flats and desert plateaus. The region forms part of the transition from the high Andes down toward the Bolivian altiplano and salt‑flat basins.
The range sits in the remote southwestern sector of Bolivia and is accessed from mountain roads and long regional routes that connect to towns in Potosí and to protected areas and tourist circuits around the Uyuni salt flats.
