Commonwealth Park is a major urban park on the northern shore of Lake Burley Griffin in central Canberra. It forms part of the city’s Parliamentary Triangle and provides formal lawns, gardens and lakeside promenades.

Park amenities include broad lawns, walking and cycling paths, ornamental plantings, public artwork and spaces used for outdoor events and concerts. The park’s lakeside setting gives open views across the central basin of the lake and to nearby cultural institutions.

The park was developed as part of Canberra’s planned central lake and public spaces and is managed as part of the city’s central parkland. It is a regular site for seasonal festivals and civic events.

Commonwealth Park sits on the northern edge of Lake Burley Griffin between the city centre and the Parliamentary Zone, adjacent to Commonwealth Avenue and within walking distance of central Canberra landmarks.

• Floriade: Australia’s largest spring flower festival, Floriade, is held here each September and October and draws large seasonal crowds to the park’s lakeside gardens.

• Arrive before sunset to see the lake and the Canberra War Memorial catch the light-there's an informal ritual of photographers along the lakeshore.
