The Columbus Monument (Monument a Colom) is a late 19th-century column and statue at the lower end of La Rambla in Barcelona, erected for the 1888 Universal Exposition. The complete structure reaches about 60 metres in height and serves as a city landmark and viewpoint.
The column offers an observation gallery near the top accessed by elevator, giving sweeping views over Port Vell, the mouth of La Rambla and parts of the Barcelona waterfront. The base contains reliefs and plaques describing the monument’s creation and the 1888 exhibition.
Commissioned as part of the 1888 Universal Exposition, the monument was completed and unveiled in the late 19th century to honor Christopher Columbus. It has since functioned as both a navigational landmark on the waterfront and a tourist viewpoint.
Located at the Portal de la Pau on the waterfront in the Ciutat Vella district, the monument stands where La Rambla meets Port Vell, within walking distance of the Drassanes metro stop and the Barri Gòtic.
