Tips for Visiting Colonsay #

  • Plan travel around the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry timetable and aim to land and depart via Scalasaig-the village harbour is the island's transport hub and base for accommodations and supplies.
  • Visit outside July-August or early/late in the day to avoid the brief high season; spring and early autumn offer better solitude and excellent machair wildflower and birding opportunities.
  • Explore north‑end beaches and inland machair habitats beyond Scalasaig-these areas receive far fewer visitors than the village and are good for spotting orchids and seabird colonies.
