The Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands are a natural property along Georgia’s Black Sea coast noted for temperate rainforests, wetlands and high biodiversity. The area contains well-preserved ecosystems with numerous endemic and relict species adapted to a humid, mild maritime climate.

Habitats include mixed broadleaf and coniferous forest, peatlands and coastal wetlands that support diverse flora and fauna and important bird populations.

The property is located in western Georgia’s Adjara region near the Black Sea coast, close to the city of Batumi and set between the coastline and the lower slopes of the Adjara mountains.

How to Get to Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands #

The Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands are in Adjara on Georgia’s Black Sea coast; the regional hub is Batumi. Most parts of the protected areas are reachable by car from Batumi in under an hour (driving time varies by exact site). Local minibuses (marshrutkas) and taxis serve coastal and nearby inland villages, from which short walks or local roads lead into the reserves.

  • Use Batumi or nearby coastal towns as a base and plan day trips inland to protected areas-many parts of the Colchic rainforests are reached from the coast rather than from remote lodgings.
