Cocentaina Castle is a medieval hilltop fortress that dominates the town of Cocentaina in the Valencian Community of Spain. The castle is a local landmark and a visible element of the towns historic skyline.

The site includes defensive walls and towers with panoramic views over the town and its surrounding valley, and it is commonly visited for short walks and historical interest. Interpretive panels and preserved masonry give a clear sense of its defensive function.

The castle originated in the medieval period and reflects the defensive architecture used in the region during the Middle Ages. Control of the fortress changed hands as Christian and Muslim powers contested the area, and the structure was modified over time to suit military needs.

Perched above the town of Cocentaina in the province of Alicante, the castle occupies a strategic hill overlooking the valley and the town below.

• Accessible hilltop position: Sits prominently above the town and is visible from many streets in Cocentaina, making it an easy short walk from the historic centre.

Cocentaina is about 35 km northwest of Alicante city. By car take the A-7 then CV-80/CV-70 toward Cocentaina; driving time from Alicante is roughly 40-50 minutes. From Cocentaina town center the castle is a 15-25 minute walk uphill (steep in places) along signage from Plaça del Pla or via Avenida del Castell. There is limited parking near the lower gate for private vehicles.

• Enter through the lower gate on the Avenida del Castell side - the path avoids the steepest stone steps and gives the best first view of the keep.
• Bring a flashlight if exploring interior rooms; some passageways are dim and the site has limited lighting.
• Look for the carved mason's marks on the castle stones - they're small, easy to miss, and reveal medieval working practices.
