City of Safranbolu Historical Site

The City of Safranbolu is a Turkish town whose Old Town preserves a large ensemble of Ottoman-era civil architecture, notably well-maintained timber-framed houses and urban fabric from the 17th to 19th centuries. The site exemplifies Ottoman domestic and town planning traditions adapted to a small-town Anatolian setting.

Key elements include densely arranged merchant houses with projecting upper stories, caravanserais and public buildings such as baths and bazaars that reflect the town’s role on regional trade routes. The old Ottoman town is best explored on foot once there.
