Cincar
Mountains Mountain peak in Bosnia, popular hiking destination
In western Bosnia, Cincar is a Dinaric mountain reached from Livno and Kupres. Walkers come for ridge hikes, limestone karst scenery and wide views across surrounding valleys.
Cincar is a mountain in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, part of the Dinaric Alps, rising to roughly 2,000 metres above sea level. It is a prominent local landmark overlooking nearby lowlands.
Hikers and nature walkers use established routes to reach grassy ridges and the summit for panoramic views across the Livanjsko polje and surrounding Dinaric peaks. The mountain features karst terrain with mixed forest on lower slopes and alpine pastures higher up, and routes are typically day hikes from nearby towns.
The mountain is a geologic feature of the Dinaric chain; human use has been primarily pastoral, with seasonal grazing and local mountain routes rather than permanent settlements. There are no major built monuments on the summit.
Cincar sits in southwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina, above the towns of Livno and Tomislavgrad in the Federation, forming part of the inland Dinaric landscape.
- Access: Summit routes are steep and can be exposed; good footwear and navigation are recommended as marked facilities are limited.
- Best viewpoint: Clear days offer wide views over the Livanjsko polje and adjacent Dinaric peaks from the summit.
