The Church of the Multiplication is a Roman Catholic chapel at Tabgha on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee in Israel, built in 1932-1933. It stands above archaeological remains of an earlier Byzantine church and is associated with the New Testament account of the feeding of the 5,000.
A Byzantine church once stood on the same spot; fragments and the mosaic were excavated in the 20th century. The current chapel was built by German Benedictine monks in 1932-1933 directly over those remains to protect and display the archaeological features.
The church sits at Tabgha on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee, close to other biblical sites such as Capernaum and the Mount of Beatitudes.
