The Church of St. Donatus is an early medieval circular church in the historic centre of Zadar, Croatia, dating to the 9th century. It is one of the largest and best-preserved pre-Romanesque buildings in Dalmatia and a landmark of the city.
The building’s cylindrical form and thick walls define its interior and exterior silhouette; the church stands next to the Roman forum and the Cathedral of St. Anastasia, forming a compact historic ensemble in the old town. Its clear geometric plan and large open nave are major architectural highlights.
Constructed in the 9th century and long associated with the local bishop Donatus, the church was built on top of earlier Roman structures and has been altered over time but retains its distinctive circular plan. It ceased to function as a parish church in later centuries and has been adapted for cultural uses, including musical performances.
