Church of Our Lady of Trsat

The Church and Shrine of Our Lady of Trsat is a Marian devotional complex on Trsat hill overlooking Rijeka in Croatia and functions as a regional pilgrimage site. The site includes a church and an adjoining Franciscan friary and has long-standing religious significance for the area.

The site is best known for the steep pilgrimage stairway that climbs from the lower town to the shrine; the route comprises 561 steps and is used by many pilgrims and visitors. The church and monastery together host liturgical services, devotions and cultural visits.

The sanctuary evolved as a religious focal point during the medieval period and was associated with Franciscan custodianship; the present church and friary reflect later rebuilding and restorations linked to continued devotion.

Geographically the shrine occupies Trsat hill above the city of Rijeka on Croatia’s Kvarner coast, providing panoramic views over the city and the Rječina valley.
