Chronicle of Georgia

The Chronicle of Georgia is a monumental sculptural complex on a hill above the Tbilisi Sea reservoir, north of Tbilisi. Created by the Georgian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli in the late 1980s, the work comprises tall stone pillars covered with bas-reliefs that depict scenes from Georgia’s rulers, saints and historical episodes.

The complex’s large vertical panels and carved scenes are intended to trace Georgia’s history from ancient times through the Christian era and later national events. The columns and reliefs provide dramatic views over the reservoir and the surrounding landscape.

The monument was executed in the late 20th century as a modern commemorative work rather than an archaeological structure. It stands on a hillside above the Tbilisi Sea and is accessed by road from Tbilisi and nearby towns in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region.
