Chini Lake

Chini Lake (Tasik Chini) is a freshwater lake complex in the state of Pahang, peninsular Malaysia, consisting of multiple adjoining lakes within a river-fed wetland system. The complex is noted for its swamp forests, aquatic vegetation and wildlife.

Visitors commonly travel by small boat to access the different pools and forested islands, where local guides may point out birdlife and wetland plants; the area is also associated with nearby indigenous Jakun communities. The lake group is sensitive to seasonal water level changes and surrounding land use.

The lakes developed over geological time as a riverine wetland on the Pahang lowlands and have long supported local fisheries and reed swamp habitats. Conservation interest has focused on the biodiversity of the lake system and impacts from upstream development.

Tasik Chini lies in central Pahang state, inland from the east coast of peninsular Malaysia; the site is accessed from nearby small towns and is a notable freshwater wetland in the region.
