How to Get to Chelan
Chelan (Lake Chelan area) is best reached by road - driving from Pangborn Memorial Airport (Wenatchee) or Seattle is the normal approach. Chelan has limited public transport, so rental cars or pre‑booked shuttles are most practical for most visitors.
Pangborn Memorial Airport (EAT) / Spokane International (GEG): Chelan’s nearest commercial air access is via Wenatchee (Pangborn Memorial, EAT) - about 45-60 minutes’ drive - or Spokane (GEG) which is farther (around 3+ hours). From EAT you’ll drive the Cascade Highway to reach Chelan; rental cars at EAT are the most common onward option and drive time to Chelan is approximately 45-60 minutes.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA): SEA is a major hub for international flights; driving to Chelan takes about 3-4 hours depending on route and traffic. Many visitors fly into Seattle and drive or take a booked shuttle to reach Lake Chelan.
Train: There is no direct passenger rail service to Chelan. The closest Amtrak stations are in Wenatchee and Ellensburg, but onward travel generally requires a car or shuttle.
Bus / Shuttle: Regional shuttle operators and public transit (linking Wenatchee to Chelan) operate seasonally; public bus service is limited, so many travellers arrange a rental car, private shuttle or drive from Wenatchee or Seattle.
How to Get Around Chelan #
Chelan’s downtown is compact and easy to walk, especially along the waterfront; many hotels, shops and restaurants are within a short stroll. A car is useful for exploring wineries, state parks and neighboring towns, and seasonal shuttles or water taxis operate during the busy summer months. Parking can get tight during peak season - plan accordingly and consider public shuttles or walking when staying in town.
