Château du Lude
Castle Renaissance château surrounded by formal gardens
Château du Lude occupies a Loire Valley curve with formal gardens and period interiors; visitors stroll the grounds, visit seasonal exhibitions and cross the river bridges.
Château du Lude sits in the town of Le Lude in the Sarthe department, Pays de la Loire. The site combines a medieval fortified core with major Renaissance and classical-era residential structures and formal gardens.
The château offers tourable interiors that show successive architectural phases alongside extensive formal gardens and parkland. The ensemble presents a layered sequence from a fortified base to later ornamental landscaping and domestic wings.
Originally a defensive site from the medieval period, the complex was transformed in the Renaissance and classical periods into a château adapted for residence rather than defence. It has been preserved as a heritage property and opened to visitors.
The château is located in the town of Le Lude, roughly midway between the cities of Tours and Le Mans in northwestern France, within the Loire Valley-Anjou-Touraine cultural region.
- Gardens and park: Gardens and parkland form a significant element of the site and are often open to visitors alongside interior tours of the château.
