Château de Roquetaillade

Château de Roquetaillade is a medieval fortress in Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, notable for its robust square towers and fortified curtain walls. The castle preserves strong medieval forms alongside 19th-century restoration work.

The site offers guided visits that include the towers, inner courtyard and restored interior rooms; its imposing fortified profile has made it a regional landmark. The visible restoration campaign in the 19th century shaped much of the castle’s present appearance.

The core fortress dates to the 14th century and was adapted in later centuries; major restorative interventions in the 19th century sought to stabilise and reconstitute medieval features for continued occupation.

The château stands in the Gironde department of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, in a rural area of southwest France.
