Château de Madrid
Castle Former Renaissance palace in Parisian Bois de Boulogne
Former Renaissance royal residence once sited in the Bois de Boulogne; of interest to visitors researching royal history and to those exploring the Bois and western Parisian parklands.
Château de Madrid was a Renaissance royal palace that once stood in the Bois de Boulogne on the western edge of Paris, built in the 16th century. It is remembered through historical records rather than surviving fabric.
Constructed under royal patronage in the Renaissance period, the palace served as a royal residence and was richly decorated in its time before falling into disuse and eventual demolition. Maps and histories of Paris record its former footprint and role in the city’s royal building tradition.
The former site lay in the western outskirts of Paris within what is now the Bois de Boulogne and the surrounding Neuilly area. The general area is in the western suburbs of the Île-de-France region.
- Survival: No substantial remains survive today; the palace is known from historical accounts as a 16th-century Renaissance residence once situated in the Bois de Boulogne area west of Paris.
