The Château de Clagny was a late 17th-century château near Versailles, built for Madame de Montespan during the reign of Louis XIV and notable for its association with leading royal architects and gardeners of the period. The château no longer survives in its original form.
Commissioned in the 1670s for Madame de Montespan, the château was designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart with gardens by André Le Nôtre; it played a role in the social and court life of Louis XIV’s reign. The château fell into decline and was demolished in the 18th century, with the estate later parceled or redeveloped.
Clagny lay to the west of Versailles palace in the Île-de-France region; its former site is within the suburban landscape around Versailles and Satory.
