Chartwell is the country home in Kent associated with Sir Winston Churchill, acquired by him in 1922 and preserved today as a National Trust property reflecting his life and work.
Churchill purchased the property in the early 1920s, used it as a family home and retreat across decades, and created much of the garden landscape and studio spaces there. After his death the house was transferred to the National Trust and opened to the public as a historic house and garden.
