Charlottenborg Palace

Charlottenborg Palace is a late 17th-century palace on Kongens Nytorv in central Copenhagen that now houses major Danish art institutions. The building is a focal point for academy teaching and public exhibitions in the city.

Public programming includes contemporary art exhibitions in the Kunsthal Charlottenborg galleries and events linked to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The palace’s formal courtyard and baroque facades front the busy Kongens Nytorv square and are often photographed by visitors.

The palace dates to the late 1600s and was built as a noble town residence; over time it passed into state and institutional use and became associated with art education and exhibition. It has housed the Royal Danish Academy and related arts organisations for many decades.
