Champs-Élysées
Stream Major Paris avenue famed for shops and monuments
The Champs-Élysées stretches from Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe, lined with shops, cafés and theatres; visitors stroll for shopping, people-watching and major public events.
The Champs-Élysées is a major ceremonial avenue in central Paris, running roughly 1.9 kilometres from Place de la Concorde to Place Charles de Gaulle and the Arc de Triomphe. It is one of the city’s principal boulevards and a long-established axis for public events, parades and urban promenades.
The avenue is lined with a mix of high-street retail, cafés, theatres and historic buildings, and it is known for seasonal decorations and major annual events such as the Bastille Day military parade and the finish of the Tour de France. Retail flagship stores and long-established cafés occupy much of the avenue’s frontage, making it a year-round visitor destination.
The Champs-Élysées developed from 17th-century formal promenades and was shaped further during 18th and 19th-century urban works that formalised its tree-lined layout and axial connections. Today it remains a primary pedestrian and ceremonial corridor in the heart of Paris.
Located in the city’s 8th arrondissement, the avenue sits between the Tuileries and the Arc de Triomphe, with easy metro access and multiple pedestrian viewpoints; the terrace atop the Arc de Triomphe gives a direct panoramic line-of-sight along the avenue.
