Chaillu Massif
Mountains Mountain range in southern Congo with dense rainforest
In southern Congo’s Niari region, the Chaillu Massif is a forested mountain range known to biologists for endemic species; the area appeals to researchers and adventurous trekkers.
The Chaillu Massif is a mountain range of rugged hills and highlands in the borderlands of southern Gabon and the Republic of the Congo, within Niari Department on the Congolese side. The area is covered largely by tropical rainforest and contains steep valleys and ridges.
The massif supports high local biodiversity and traditional rural communities in scattered settlements; it is less developed and more remote than coastal lowland areas. The terrain and forest cover make the Chaillu Massif important for ecological study and conservation.
