Cedar Point is a major amusement park on Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio, known for a large collection of high-profile roller coasters and a long history as a regional resort. The park is widely recognized among roller coaster enthusiasts for record-setting attractions.

The park’s highlights include a mix of steel and wooden roller coasters, family rides, live entertainment, and lakefront promenades. Signature coasters such as Millennium Force and Steel Vengeance draw enthusiasts for their height, speed and ride layouts; the historic wooden coaster The Beast runs through wooded terrain and has been an icon since it opened.

Originally developed in the late 19th century as a recreational resort, the site expanded over decades into a full-scale amusement park with major coaster investments from the late 20th century onward. The park has continuously added headline attractions to remain a national draw.

Cedar Point sits on a long Lake Erie peninsula in Sandusky, Ohio, giving much of the park waterfront exposure and views across the lake. It is a short drive from the city of Sandusky and serves as a regional destination for northern Ohio and southern Michigan visitors.

  • Queue management: Fast Lane express passes are available to reduce queue times for major roller coasters on busy days.
  • Lake views: Located on a peninsula into Lake Erie, many rides and viewpoints give clear views of the lake-sunset rides can be particularly scenic.

What to See #

  • Millennium Force: A long-standing steel giga coaster opened in 2000 that was notable for its height and speed at the time it debuted and remains one of the park's flagship rides.
  • Steel Vengeance: A high-profile modern hybrid coaster converted from a large wooden structure into a steel-wood hybrid, noted for its length and airtime elements.
  • The Beast: Historic wooden coaster that opened in 1979 and is one of the longest continuously operated wooden roller coasters in the world, running through wooded terrain.

Tips for Visiting Cedar Point #

  • Arrive at park opening on weekdays or buy a Fast Lane pass-Cedar Point's marquee coasters (Millennium Force, Steel Vengeance) build long lines quickly, so early entry or a Fast Lane skip dramatically reduces wait times.
  • Aim to arrive before opening to secure closer parking; the lots nearest the Main Gate fill early on busy summer days and arriving early also lets you hit popular rides before midday crowds.
  • Don't skip the Lake Erie shoreline and boardwalk area-many visitors focus only on coasters and miss the beach views and quieter boardwalk attractions on the north side of the park.
