Cayuga Lake is one of the Finger Lakes in central New York State, United States. It is an elongated glacial lake oriented roughly north-south and is among the larger lakes in the Finger Lakes group.
The lake offers recreational boating, fishing, wineries on its shores, and lakeside communities with marinas and parks. Numerous public access points and state parks sit along the shoreline providing swimming, trails, and viewpoints.
The lake basin was formed by glacial activity and has supported settlement, transport, and agriculture along its shores since European colonization. Over time the lake has become a regional resource for tourism and recreation.
Cayuga Lake runs through central New York State; its northern and southern ends lie within the Finger Lakes region, with the city of Ithaca at the southern tip and other towns along its eastern and western shores.
