The Cathedral of the Savior (commonly known as La Seo) is the historic cathedral of Zaragoza in Aragon, Spain. Major construction began in the 12th century and the building shows construction and restoration phases through the early modern period.

The interior presents Gothic spatial planning with notable Mudéjar decorative work and later Renaissance and Baroque additions, so visitors can see several architectural styles in one complex. The Capilla Mayor contains the principal high altar and choir, and the cathedral’s tower is an important landmark in the old town.

Erected on the site of an earlier mosque after the Christian reconquest, the cathedral was developed in stages from the medieval period onward, with major building campaigns between the 12th and 17th centuries. Over time it has served as the principal episcopal church of Zaragoza and has been altered and restored repeatedly to accommodate changing liturgical and artistic tastes.

Located in Zaragoza’s historic center on the Plaza de la Seo, the cathedral is a short walk from the Ebro river and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, making it part of the city’s core cluster of historical monuments.
