Castles of Augustusburg and Falkenlust at Brühl Historical Site

Falkenlust is a compact pavilion set in the grounds, originally intended for falconry and intimate leisure functions and preserving period furnishings and decorative schemes.

Constructed in the first half of the 18th century for the Electors and Archbishops of Cologne, the complex was developed as a representative ducal residence and leisure estate. Architects, sculptors and painters of the period contributed to the palace’s interior decoration and the planned landscape setting.

The site lies in the town of Brühl, southwest of Cologne and Bonn in western Germany, set within landscaped gardens and parkland that link the two buildings.

By car from Cologne follow the B51/A553 toward Brühl (drive ~20-30 minutes depending on traffic) and there is parking near the palace grounds.

• Visit first thing after opening on a weekday to avoid the guided‑tour queues that form later in the day; guided tours are usually required to enter the interiors of Augustusburg so booking a morning slot will let you combine the palace tour with a quieter walk to Falkenlust.
• Use the main Augustusburg entrance/visitor parking rather than trying to approach Falkenlust directly - the small hunting lodge is a short walk through the park from Augustusburg and is easier to visit as part of the same circuit.
