Castle Sween is a ruined medieval castle on the eastern shore of Loch Sween in Knapdale, Argyll, Scotland, dating back to the 12th century and regarded as one of Scotland’s earliest stone castles.
The remains consist of a small, mostly ruined stone castle set on a rocky shoreline promontory with surviving sections of curtain wall and other masonry; the site is primarily of interest as a historic ruin and for views across the loch. Visitors typically view the castle from the shoreline and approach on foot when tides and access allow.
The castle was established in the 12th century by the family known as MacSween (Suibhne) and later passed through several regional clans and owners over subsequent centuries before falling into ruin. It ceased to be a major stronghold many centuries ago and survives today as an archaeological/ruin site and scheduled monument.

- Access note: Situated on a rocky promontory on the eastern shore of Loch Sween, the site is exposed to changing weather and tidal conditions so wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
