Castle Fraser

Castle Fraser is a large Scottish tower house and estate in Aberdeenshire dating primarily to the late 16th and early 17th centuries. It is one of Scotland’s notable historic tower houses and is preserved as a historic property.

Visitors explore the tower house interior, which includes grand rooms and decorative details, and the surrounding estate parkland and gardens. The scale of the building and its fortified residential architecture are primary points of interest.

Constructed by the Fraser family over the late 1500s and early 1600s, the property served as a family seat and evolved architecturally through extensions and interior redecoration. In the 20th century it entered the care of a heritage organization and has been conserved and opened to the public.

The castle stands amid farmland and managed parkland in north-east Scotland, close to small villages in Aberdeenshire and within reach of the region’s main road network.
