Castle Clinton is a small circular fort and national monument located in Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan, New York City, originally constructed in the early 19th century. It has served multiple civic roles, including coastal defense and later public functions.
The site preserves the stone fort’s circular plan and offers exhibits and interpretive material about its history. The location provides close views of New York Harbor and is frequently visited as part of the Battery Park public area.
Built as a coastal defensive work in the early 1800s, the structure later became a popular public entertainment space and, in the mid 19th century, served as New York’s immigration processing station known as Castle Garden. The building has since been restored and is managed as a National Park Service site.
