Castello Aragonese (Taranto) is a waterfront fortress in the city of Taranto, Apulia, located between the Mar Grande and Mar Piccolo. The castle visible today mainly reflects Aragonese-period fortification works that dominate the city’s seaward defences.
The structure occupies a strategic position at the entrance to Taranto’s waterways and presents characteristic military masonry and towers along the waterfront. Visitors view the castle from the adjacent promenade and harbourfront; internal access may be subject to local opening hours and management.
The present fortress replaced or substantially rebuilt earlier medieval defensive works during the Aragonese rule in southern Italy, adapting the site for artillery-era defence.
The castle is in central Taranto, adjoining the historic port area and close to the city’s main seafront.
