Castelão, officially Estádio Governador Plácido Castelo, is the principal multiuse stadium in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil and one of the country’s larger football venues. It is commonly referred to by its nickname and is a key sports venue in the region.

The stadium has a seating capacity in the tens of thousands and is used primarily for football matches, national competitions and occasional concerts. The venue was one of the host stadiums for the 2014 FIFA World Cup after a major renovation that expanded and modernized spectator facilities.

Originally constructed in the 1970s, the ground has undergone significant redevelopment to meet modern safety and comfort standards, including upgrades to seating, concourses and player facilities. The stadium is home to local professional clubs and is frequently used for state and national cup fixtures.

The stadium sits within Fortaleza, the capital of Ceará on Brazil’s northeast coast, offering direct urban access from the city and serving as a major sporting landmark for the metropolitan area.
