Cassope (Kassope) is the ruins of an ancient Greek city located in the Epirus region of northwestern Greece, founded in the classical period. The settlement is notable for its preserved urban layout and visible public structures dating to the 4th century BC and later.
Visitors can see an open-air theatre, the lines of an orthogonal street grid, remains of the agora and building foundations; the site is compact and visited primarily for its clear classical town plan. The theatre and civic remains are among the principal highlights for study and photography.
Cassope was established in the late Classical to early Hellenistic era by local Epirote communities and functioned as a regional centre through the Hellenistic period. Excavations and surveys have documented its fortification lines and public architecture.
The site sits on a raised plateau in Epirus with views toward the Ionian Sea, within the modern administrative region of Epirus in northwestern Greece.
- Urban plan: The site exhibits a clear orthogonal (Hippodamian) planning scheme that is visible in the surviving street traces and building plots.
