Casal Rotondo is a large circular Roman funerary monument located on the Appian Way to the southeast of Rome. It stands out as one of the conspicuous tumulus-type tombs along the ancient road.
The monument presents as a substantial circular earthen and masonry mound visible from the Appian Way regional park; it is often noted for its size rather than for detailed surviving decoration. The surrounding area contains other Roman tombs and remains along the ancient route.
Built in the Roman period as a burial monument, the structure dates to the late Republican or early Imperial era and has been repurposed and altered over later centuries, including use in the medieval period.
Casal Rotondo lies along the Via Appia Antica on the outskirts of Rome, within the Appia Antica Regional Park and the archaeological landscape south-east of the city.

Casal Rotondo sits along the Appian Way (Via Appia Antica) southeast of Rome’s city center. From Rome, take bus 118 or the Appia Antica regional buses toward the Parco Regionale dell’Appia Antica and walk along the ancient road; the site is reached on foot via the park’s trails. Alternatively, reach the Appian Way by taxi from the San Giovanni or Circo Massimo areas and walk east along the paved sections of the Via Appia.
