Carska Bara

Carska Bara is a freshwater wetland reserve in the Vojvodina region of northern Serbia, noted for its marshes, shallow lakes and rich birdlife. It is one of the better-known wetland complexes in the region for nature observation.

The area traditionally served as floodplain and fisheries habitat; in the 20th century parts were set aside and managed for conservation to protect the important wetland ecosystems and their bird populations. Ongoing management focuses on water-level control and habitat maintenance for migratory and breeding species.

The reserve lies in northern Serbia’s flatland plain near the town of Zrenjanin in the Vojvodina region, embedded within a lowland river landscape of channels and agricultural land.

• Birdwatching seasons: Peak bird activity is typically in spring and autumn migration seasons when many waterfowl and waders pass through or stop to feed.
• Access note: Access is usually by short trails and observation points around the reserve; some areas may be seasonally flooded and inaccessible by foot.
