Carreg Cennen Castle is a ruined medieval fortress perched on a limestone escarpment in Carmarthenshire, south-west Wales. The castle occupies a prominent rocky outcrop above the River Cennen valley and is noted for its dramatic cliff-top position.

Visitors come to inspect the ruined stone walls and tower foundations, use the footpaths around the site and view the exposed cave at the base of the rock. The high position gives long views across rolling farmland and moorland in the surrounding area.

The site has medieval origins with major masonry works dating from the medieval period; it passed between Welsh and English hands during the Middle Ages and fell into ruin in later centuries. Its defensive location and masonry remain the primary historical features visible today.

The castle stands above the River Cennen near the village of Trapp and is a short drive from the market town of Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire, set in a rural limestone landscape.

  • Dramatic cliff-top siting: Perched on a high limestone crag, the castle provides dramatic vantage points over the surrounding valley and is well known for its cliff-top setting.
