Carmel Market

Carmel Market (Shuk HaCarmel) is Tel Aviv’s largest open-air market, located in the city centre and established during the early growth of Tel Aviv in the 1920s. It is a major commercial and social hub for residents and visitors.

The market stretches along Carmel Street and neighbouring lanes and combines hundreds of stalls and small shops selling fresh produce, fish, spices, prepared foods, clothing and household goods. It is well known for its street food and lively atmosphere; many stalls and eateries operate daily.

Historically the market grew as Tel Aviv expanded in the first decades of the 20th century and developed into the city’s principal open-air market by mid-century. It remains a focal point of urban life and daily trade in Tel Aviv.
