Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site

The Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site in Flat Rock, North Carolina, preserves the home and farm where poet and writer Carl Sandburg lived during the later part of his life. The property interprets his domestic life, writing, and the working farm he maintained.

Visitors can tour the Sandburg family house furnished with personal items and See exhibits about his literary career. The grounds include barns and a working farm area once used to raise goats and other livestock, as well as trails through woodlands that are open to the public.

Carl Sandburg purchased the Flat Rock property in 1945 and lived there with his family until his death in 1967; the site was later established as a National Historic Site to preserve the house, farm, and landscape associated with his life and work.

The property is in Flat Rock in western North Carolina, within the Blue Ridge foothills and near the towns of Hendersonville and Asheville. The site sits on wooded grounds with trails and pastoral views.
