Cape Enniberg
Cliff Dramatic sea cliff on Faroe Islands, Europe
On the Norðoyar coast, Cape Enniberg rises as a sheer sea cliff; visitors arrive for birdwatching, ferry viewpoints and rugged coastal hikes.
Cape Enniberg is a prominent sea cliff on the island of Viðoy in the Faroe Islands, rising to approximately 754 metres above sea level. It is one of the highest promontories in the archipelago and a striking coastal feature.
From sea or nearby vantage points the cliff presents dramatic vertical faces and seabird colonies. Boat trips and coastal viewpoints provide the primary ways to observe the cliff; the immediate area is rugged and remote.
The cliff is a natural landmark long noted in local navigation and geography; there is no built heritage at the promontory itself beyond traditional Faroese use of coastal waters.
Positioned on the northern tip of Viðoy in the Norðoyar region of the Faroe Islands, the cape faces the open North Atlantic and is visible from sea approaches to the islands.
- Height: The cliff rises steeply from sea level to roughly 754 metres, forming one of the highest sea cliffs in the North Atlantic.
How to Get to Cape Enniberg #
Cape Enniberg sits on the northern edge of Viðoy island near the village of Viðareiði in the Faroe Islands. The cape is reached by local road to Viðareiði, where you can park and then take a short, steep walk to the cliff viewpoint. The area is also served by regional buses/taxi connections from the main towns on the Norðoyar islands (Klaksvík) and from Tórshavn by inter-island road/tunnel links and bus services.
Tips for Visiting Cape Enniberg #
- Drive or take local transport to the village of Viðareiði and walk the short route to the Cape Enniberg viewpoint-the cliff is immediately above the village and the view is reached without lengthy hikes.
- Visit on a calm, clear day (early morning or late evening in summer) for the best light and sea visibility; strong winds frequently close in and can make cliff edges hazardous.
- Don't miss scanning the sea cliffs for seabirds in summer; the dramatic vertical drop and sea stacks are best appreciated from the official viewing points rather than attempting risky off-path approaches.
Best Time to Visit Cape Enniberg #
Best visited in summer (June-August) when boat access and visibility are most reliable.
