By public transit take the MBTA Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail from Boston North Station to Rockport (end of the line); from Rockport or Gloucester stations local buses, taxis or short drives connect to beaches, viewpoints and town centers - many attractions are within a few miles of the stations.

Arrive early in the morning for calmer seas and the best light on the coastal granite and fishing harbors-sunrise is especially good for photography.
Visit mid‑week or in the shoulder seasons (spring, autumn) to avoid the heavy weekend and summer tourist traffic that concentrates in Gloucester and Rockport.
