Cap Canaille is a coastal headland on the Mediterranean coast of southern France near the towns of Cassis and La Ciotat in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The cliffs rise to nearly 400 metres and are noted for their layered, multi-colored rock faces.
Scenic viewpoints along the coastal road and the Route des Crêtes provide panoramic views across the Bay of Cassis and the open Mediterranean; short walks and roadside pullouts are the main visitor activities. Rock exposures show distinct bands of sandstone and conglomerate, visible from viewpoints and viewing platforms.
The area is a natural geological feature formed by sedimentary deposition and tectonic uplift; it has long been a noted landmark on the Côte d’Azur and appears on local maps and touring routes. Human infrastructure is limited to roads and viewpoints rather than large built developments.
