The Canadian War Museum is Canada’s national museum of military history located in Ottawa. Its current purpose-built building opened in 2005.
Galleries present Canada’s military history from earlier colonial conflicts through both World Wars to recent operations, with large collections of uniforms, weapons, medals, photographs and material culture on display. Exhibits include object-rich displays and rotating temporary exhibitions that cover land, sea and air warfare and social impacts of conflict.
The museum’s collections were previously housed in an older facility on Sussex Drive before relocation to the new building on LeBreton Flats. The present building and exhibition galleries were created to provide modern conservation, research and public-display facilities.
Situated on LeBreton Flats in Ottawa, the museum sits on the bank of the Ottawa River close to downtown and within easy walking distance of the parliamentary precinct.
