Cameia National Park

Cameia National Park is a protected area in Moxico Province in eastern Angola that conserves seasonally flooded plains, shallow lakes and surrounding miombo woodland. The two prominent shallow lakes in the area are focal points for wildlife and local livelihoods.

The landscape includes expansive floodplain grasslands seasonally inundated, shallow lakes and patches of miombo woodland that support waterbirds, aquatic life and large herbivores where present. Birdwatching, observing wetland ecology and seeing extensive floodplain scenery are principal attractions for visitors who reach the park.

Originally set aside as a conservation unit under Angola’s system of protected areas, the park’s management and accessibility have varied with national circumstances; it remains recognized for its wetland and woodland values.

The park lies in eastern Angola’s Moxico Province, forming part of a broad inland plain crossed by seasonal waterways and containing shallow lakes within the regional floodplain.
