Cajamarquilla is a large pre-Hispanic archaeological complex in the Department of Lima, Peru, comprising extensive adobe ruins, platforms and plaza areas. The site preserves masonry and earthen architecture that reflect substantial urban and administrative activity in antiquity.
The complex contains multiple architectural sectors including platforms, perimeter walls and open plazas over a broad area, and is visited for its scale and preservation of pre-Columbian urban planning. There are exposed walls and ruinous structures rather than modern visitor facilities across much of the site.
Archaeological work has identified phases of occupation and construction spanning pre-Hispanic periods; the site functioned as a significant local centre before the arrival of Europeans. Excavations and studies have documented its architectural layout and material culture but the site remains largely an open-ruin archaeological area.
Geographically Cajamarquilla lies inland from Lima’s central districts on the coastal plain at the edge of the Lima metropolitan area, within the Department of Lima and accessible by road from the city.
