Cabildo of Buenos Aires

The Cabildo of Buenos Aires is the colonial-era municipal building on Plaza de Mayo in central Buenos Aires, originally constructed in the 18th century as the seat of the town council.

Built during the Spanish colonial period and modified during the 19th century, the Cabildo served as the local seat of government under Spanish rule and was a focal point for political gatherings in 1810. Over time it was converted into a museum documenting the colonial era and the May Revolution.

Sited on Plaza de Mayo in the San Nicolás barrio of Buenos Aires, directly opposite the Casa Rosada and within the historic central district; it is a short walk from major central metro stations.
