How to Get to Brioude#
Brioude is straightforward to reach by regional train from Clermont-Ferrand or Le Puy, and by car from nearby airports. The town is compact - most visitors find walking and short taxi rides sufficient for getting around.
Le Puy-Loudes (LPY): Le Puy airport is the closest regional airport (≈30-40 km). By car it’s roughly 30-45 minutes to Brioude; taxis and rental cars are available.
Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne (CFE): Clermont-Ferrand is the nearest larger airport (≈70-90 km). Driving to Brioude takes about 1-1.5 hours; rail connections from Clermont to Brioude are possible via TER services (see train section).
Train: Brioude has an SNCF station (Gare de Brioude) on regional lines linking Clermont-Ferrand and Le Puy-en-Velay. TER trains are the most convenient public option from Clermont or Le Puy and journey times are roughly 40-70 minutes depending on origin.
Bus: Departmental coach services operate to surrounding towns and villages; schedules are limited outside weekday hours. Taxis provide a useful supplement for arrivals when buses are sparse.
