Bridal Veil Falls (Waikato) Waterfall

Bridal Veil Falls (Wairēinga) in the Waikato Region of New Zealand is a scenic waterfall with a single, near-vertical drop of about 55 metres. It is set within a protected scenic reserve and is a locally prominent natural feature.

A formed track and viewing platform provide an accessible vantage point over the top of the falls, with additional steps and tracks that descend toward lower viewpoints and the base area where conditions permit. The site is used for short walks, photography, and nature observation.

The falls have long been a notable landscape feature for local communities and are preserved within a scenic reserve to protect the surrounding native forest and the waterfall itself. The English name ‘Bridal Veil’ refers to the thin, veil-like appearance of the falling water.

The falls are located within the Wairēinga Scenic Reserve in Waikato on New Zealand’s North Island, near the town of Raglan and accessible from regional roads.

• Height: The waterfall has a near-vertical single drop of approximately 55 metres into a plunge pool framed by native forest, making it one of the taller and better-known falls in the Waikato region.

The falls are accessible from roads off State Highway routes near Raglan; parking is typically at a small lot close to the walking track. From central Auckland it’s approximately a 45-60 minute drive west-follow signs toward Raglan and local turnoffs to the falls parking area.

• Start the short walk to the falls early to avoid afternoon crowds, especially on summer weekends.
• Wear grippy footwear-the path is short but can be slippery after rain and the final overlook involves a few wet, rocky steps.
• Combine the visit with nearby Mangere Mountain or Ambury Regional Park for a full morning of Auckland's volcanic and coastal landscapes.
