Brandberg Mountain is a prominent granite massif in northwestern Namibia and the country’s highest mountain, with its highest point, Königstein, reaching about 2,573 metres. The massif is famed for its concentration of prehistoric rock paintings and sheltered art panels.
The most famous artwork is the so-called White Lady, a polychrome painted figure in a rock shelter discovered by early 20th-century explorers; the site and many other shelters contain paintings of human and animal subjects executed over many centuries. Brandberg’s rock art sites are typically visited with local guides due to remoteness and conservation rules.
